Product Details

ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is an oil based filament and has a higher melting point than PLA typical parts made from ABS are:

  • Lego Bricks
  • Medical devices
  • Automotive components, interior/exterior (not engine bay)
  • Toys in General
  • Great for functional prototypes.

ABS filament is commonly used in 3D printing. It has the following characteristics:

1. Softer than PLA, but high strength, good toughness.
2. Density is low, when printing larger volume model  total weight is lighter.
3. Cost-effective, can be processed in wide range temperature;
4. Accurate diameter: 3.0/1.75mm, variations + /-0.03mm, roundness +/-0.02mm;

PROS CONS
+ Very sturdy and hardy Made out of oil, so environmentally not great.
+ Suitable for any component that needs to be durable Must be printed on a heated Bed, ideally with a warm enclosed chamber
+ Higher melting point than PLA Hot plastic fumes when printing can be harmful so ventilation is a must.
+ Longer lifespan, as its oil based can warp when printing so dimensional stability can vary from part to part.
+very common material so loads of information out there.  Not for any food orientated designs. Or anything consumption orientated.
+ typically works on almost all 3d printers. For any Post process work, a mask should be worn.
